myteachernet.org

On 4th of December 2008, a portal dedicated to Malaysian teachers was created called MyTeacherNet.Org or the Organization for Malaysian (My) Teacher Networks. I will be using the portal for my action research in the development of teacher online networks for their professional development.  This research is interested in the factors that contribute to the change of the teaching professional practices as they engage with the collaborative KM (knowledge management) tools (include social network, blog, online forums, chat and content repositories)
Currently, I'm in the process of customizing the site to suit the need of the Malaysian teachers (from my perspective, with the constrain of the IT knowledge that I have).

My slide presentation at our 3rd DC, 2008

Uploaded my slide presentation I gave during our 3rd Doctoral Research Colloquium at my faculty, Faculty of ICT, IIUM.  As mention in the slide, many changes had been made since then.  Therefore what on the slide might not be what I am going to do in the actual study.

You can access the video (youtube) version of the slide from here or watch it in this blog site (scroll down please).

Meeting with En Saidon Putih, Head of IT & Corporate Planning Unit, K-Perak

Yesterday, I met En Saidion Putih, K-Perak Head IT & Corporate Planning Unit.  We discussed on my propose project with the KPEC schools. The meeting was at PCCT, Ipoh.  He informed me on the K-Perak Data Centre, where I could host the KPEC teachers' portal, FOC.  I think this was very good opportunity that could save me a lot of money in this project.  We also discussed on matter relating to funding & grant including the MDEC Preseed Fund.  The next public workshop will be on the 2nd of December, 2008 at ... somewhere.

Trip to Kuala Kangsar

Last Monday (Nov. 3) I follow Shukry to Kuala Kangsar (KK) for his data collection at a secondary school there (I will tell you more about the school later).  I spent  3 days only at KK, as I have an important meeting at IIUM on Wednesday. KK is the royal town for the state of Perak.  The picture on your left, was the view of the Perak River from the KK Rest House where we spent our nights.

Searching for the theoretical sampling

Last week I followed Shukry (I'll tell something about him and his research) to Ipoh.  I spent 3 days (Monday-Wednesday) at Seri Ampang National School (SK Seri Ampang), Ipoh observing learning how to conduct a proper semi-structured interview from Shukry.  He's in the data collection stage and this is one of his sample school. This school was one of the 5 K-Perak eLearning cluster (KPEC) school.  KPEC was a ICT integration project conducted by the Perak state government  with the help of INZED, a ICT in Education consultant from New Zealand. ...(tbc).

My PhD Research

Actually, this blog should have started more than two years ago.  I started my PhD quest in November 2005.  I realize the need to keep a research journal.  But you know, the paper journal keep changing and nothing really come out of it.  I guest, I have about half a dozen of them, but all scattered all over the places I don't know where.  I'm really hoping this one would be a success.

As for my research topic, currently (and it seem to keep changing), "Introducing Knowledge Management Technologies to Teachers Professional Development: An Action Research Study."

This study focuses on the problems of introducing Knowledge Management (KM) Technologies to groups of teachers with the objective to help them in their professional development. I have chosen the action research path for this study for a number of reasons, which I will address later in other section of this blog.  The research locality (site) is in one school district in Malaysia, but it can expand to other educational district as well.

Well, thats briefly for now.
